Family of 4 Displaced in Lawrenceville House Fire
One of the residents heard a "pop" sound from behind the stove, where flames were found.
A family of four has been displaced due to a Sunday fire at their Lawrenceville home. No injuries were reported.
According to Gwinnett County Fire spokesman Lt. Colin Rhoden, the fire was reported around 11:26 p.m. on the 1500 block of Gabriel Drive, near McKendree Church Road and Lawrenceville Suwanee Road. One of the residents heard a "pop" sound from behind the stove, where flames were found. The fire alarm also was triggered during the fire.
The resident called authorities and quickly evacuated all other members of the house.
Fire crews arrived eight minutes later and found heavy black smoke coming from the front door. The fire was heaviest on the back side of the house where the fire extended up the back wall into the attic, according to Rhoden. Firefighters entered the house and extinguished the fire at the point of origin and in the attic using fire attack lines from the truck.
The house has moderate to heavy damage on the first floor where the fire started in the kitchen, and heavy heat and smoke caused damage throughout the rest of the house and on the second level. The fire is cause is undetermined.
The displaced party includes three adults and one child.
