Also..I won't be so quick to judge. Some kids are able to stay alone...we don't know the circumstances. I would hate to be judged

Right. We don't know the circumstances yet. Were his parents or babysitter next door or just making a quick trip to the store? When I was 10, my mother did leave me alone when she went to the grocery store or something. Nothing longer than an hour though. It depends on the maturity of the child.

He can be home alone. Well trained boy. You can babysit at 12 for goodness sakes. It's more dangerous walking home from the bus stop.

His parents should be very proud. Assuming he couldn't get out of house, he did the right thing. Every child is different- parents know best as to when they are ready to be home alone.

We didn't hear from Mom. She might have been at a neighbors house for all we know. Really too soon to judge the situation until we know what really happened. I saw this kid on the news and thought he was darling. Seemed very mature for his age. Kudos for his quick response and keeping cool.

In this day and time - violent crimes are down. Check the FBI crime stats. But, the media overhypes things, getying people to worry more than they should. Kids need to gradually be given responsibilities. We can't supervise them 24/7 till the age of 16 then turn them loose with a car and libing on their own two years later.

We wrote about kids being left at home last year, check it out: http://lilburn.patch.com/articles/moms-talk-leaving-kids-home-alone-610a5de7. But, also it appears that children should be between 8 and 12 to be left home alone for no more than 2 hours, and that children older 12 can stay home alone for no more than 12 hours.
