Lawrenceville Named 2012 Government of the Year by Gwinnett Clean and Beautiful
Gwinnett Clean and Beautiful (GCB) has named the City of Lawrenceville as its ‘2012 Government of the Year’. The award, given annually since 1980, recognizes local communities for exemplary efforts in environmental stewardship and sustainability.
Mayor Judy Jordan Johnson said, “This award speaks to the City’s character, affirming its conscientious and responsible approach to caring for the community’s environment. We are very honored and humbled to receive such an award from Gwinnett Clean and Beautiful and thank them for their leadership in driving a strong, green-friendly environment for all of us.
Lawrenceville was selected by a team of judges appointed by the GCB to receive this prestigious ECoS (Environmental Consciousness and Stewardship) award. Judges considered several criteria in making their decision within each of the eight award categories. Namely, communities were assessed based on their activity to create a greener, cleaner, more livable Gwinnett; preserve or enhance the beauty of the environment; improve community and environmental practices; and heighten awareness of environmental stewardship.
Connie Wiggins, Executive Director for Gwinnett Clean and Beautiful added, “Lawrenceville, like our recipients in years past, is an excellent partner in green best practice initiatives. Their consistent and aggressive code enforcement as well as their new beautification initiative are reasons for their recognition this year. We are grateful to them for their leadership in these areas and congratulate all our winners on their green-friendly success!”
